TREE-PLANTING PROJECT IN MOTION IN GOSHEN

The Trees for Goshen beautification project got underway on Friday with the planting of 11 native species along Route 63, in front of Town Hall and Goshen Center School.

Several volunteers working under the direction of Patrick and Maddie Flynn of Goshen completed Phase One of the project. Goshen Garden Club members participated as did students from the agriculture science and technology program at Lakeview High School.

“They’ve done a tremendous job of dressing up the side of the road,” Goshen First Selectman Todd Carusillo said. “This is an initiative that supports our plan for sustainability in town through volunteer involvement.”

Planted were two white oaks, five red maples, two dogwoods, and two red buds. A total of $4,075 in donations was raised to buy the trees. The amount was matched by Sustainable CT, a non-profit organization that promotes community activism. The second phase of the project will involve plantings on Route 63 south of the rotary.
